At Red Car Rentals Kalymnos, we believe in complete transparency. Below you will find everything you need to know before, during, and after your rental, ensuring you have all the information necessary to focus on enjoying the island with total peace of mind.
What's Included in the Price
We keep things simple and honest. Every rental price includes:
- VAT and all applicable local taxes: no surprise charges at checkout.
- Basic Third-Party Liability Insurance: mandatory coverage included as standard (Upgraded protection packages available during booking).
- 24-hour roadside assistance: help is always just a phone call away
- Vehicle replacement in case of breakdown: we'll get you back on the road fast.
- Unlimited mileage: explore every corner of Kalymnos without watching the odometer
- Free additional driver: share the driving at no extra cost
- Baby & child seats: available upon request, subject to availability (please mention at time of booking)
Please note: Luggage transfer services and enhanced insurance options (including Tire & Underbody protection) are available as optional add-ons.
Rental Requirements
To rent a vehicle with Red Car Rentals Kalymnos, the following conditions must be met:
- Minimum driver age: 21 years old
- Driving licence validity: Must have held a valid licence for at least 1 year
- EU licence holders: Your standard national driving licence is fully accepted
- Non-EU licence holders: An International Driving Permit (IDP) is required alongside your national licence
- Identification: All drivers must present a valid passport or national ID at the time of vehicle collection.
- Security Deposit: A valid credit or debit card in the main driver's name may be required for the security deposit. Please note that the deposit amount depends on the insurance package selected.
Young driver surcharges may apply for drivers aged between 21 and 24. Please contact us for details.
Reservations & Vehicle Availability
- - All reservations are made for a vehicle category, not a specific model. This allows us to always guarantee availability even during peak season.
- - In the event that your reserved category is unavailable, we will provide a vehicle of a similar or higher category at no additional cost.
- - We strongly recommend booking in advance during the summer season to secure your preferred category.

Fuel Policy
- Full-to-Full: All vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned with a full tank.
- Refuelling Charges: If the vehicle is returned with less fuel than provided, the cost of refuelling will be charged at the current local pump price plus a small administration fee.
- Pro Tip: We recommend refuelling at a station near the port or your drop-off point just before returning your vehicle to avoid any additional charges.
Late Returns
- Return Timing: Vehicles must be returned by the specific date and time stated in your rental agreement.
- Grace Period: A grace period of 59 minutes is provided.
- Late Charges: Returns exceeding this grace period will be subject to an additional daily rental charge.
- Extensions: If you wish to extend your rental, please contact us via WhatsApp as early as possible. Extensions are subject to vehicle availability and must be confirmed by our team.
Vehicle Transfer & Off-Island Use
- Island Borders: Our vehicles are intended for use strictly on the island of Kalymnos.
- Prohibitions: Transferring the vehicle to another island or the mainland is prohibited without prior written authorization from Red Car Rentals Kalymnos.
- Insurance Voidance: Any unauthorized transfer outside of Kalymnos will result in the immediate cancellation of all insurance coverage. In such cases, the renter will be held fully liable for all damages, recovery costs, and legal fees.
Prohibited Uses
- Off-road driving: Vehicles must remain on paved or officially established roads at all times.
- Commercial use: Vehicles may not be used for taxi services, courier deliveries, or any form of paid passenger or goods transport.
- Racing & Reckless Driving: Participation in any form of motorsport, racing, speed trials, or reckless driving is strictly forbidden.
- Unlisted Drivers: The vehicle may only be driven by the authorized driver(s) named in the rental agreement. Allowing an unauthorized person to operate the vehicle will void all insurance coverage.
- Driving Under the Influence: Operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substance is strictly prohibited and constitutes a serious violation of Greek law.
Consequences of Violation:
Any breach of the conditions above will result in the immediate cancellation of all insurance coverage. In such events, the renter will be held fully liable for any resulting damage, total loss of the vehicle, and all associated legal or recovery consequences.
Personal Belongings
Red Car Rentals Kalymnos accepts no responsibility for personal belongings left in or lost from the rental vehicle during the rental period. We recommend keeping valuables with you at all times and never leaving items visible inside a parked vehicle.
Accidents & Damage Reporting
- In the event of an accident, the renter must immediately notify Red Car Rentals Kalymnos via WhatsApp at +30 6945035645.
- The renter must also contact the local police (dial 100) and obtain an official police report, which will be required for any insurance claim.
- Do not move the vehicle or admit liability before documenting the scene and notifying us.
- Any damage not reported at the time of vehicle collection that is discovered upon return may be charged to the renter.
